7 Great Ways To Beat Doggy Boredom

Did you know that dogs need entertainment and stimulation to thrive? Our canine pals are very intelligent. (Well, most of them are, anyway.) Fido can get restless and unhappy if he gets bored! In this article, a London, ON vet lists some great ways to keep your furry BFF happy and entertained.

Playing is actually very important for dogs, both mentally and physically. First and foremost, this is a great way to keep your furry companion in shape. A fun play session will help Fido burn off any excess energy he has, leaving him (hopefully) too tired to dig up your flowerbeds or chew up your shoes.

Although Fido probably wishes you could play with him all day, every day, that’s probably not realistic. Make sure to provide your pup with toys he can use when you’re out. Puzzle toys are great for this! Kong toys are also very popular with our canine friends.

Many dogs really like learning new things. If your pooch hasn’t mastered the basics, such as Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down, work on these first. Once Fido has these down pat, move on to more advanced commands. Or, just show him some cute tricks, like Shake or Roll Over.

Even if you have a yard, we recommend taking your canine buddy for daily walks. This is a great way for Fido to stay active and enjoy a change of scenery. It’s also good for him just to get out and see what the neighborhood squirrels are up to.

Window View

If your dog stays home while you go to work, he’ll probably appreciate having a window with a good view. Fido may spend hours making nose art on your glass and spying on the neighbor’s cat!

Man’s Best Friend loves exploring new places and sniffing previously-unknown patches of grass. Get Fido’s tail wagging by taking him to pet-friendly parks or trails sometimes.

Doggy Daycare

Doggy daycare is becoming very popular. This is actually a great way to keep dogs happy and entertained while their owners are at work. Fido can spend the day playing with his four-legged friends, while you earn money for squeaky toys and doggy treats!
